Hey whats up everyone, I was surfing around the internet and found an article that I thought I would share with you all. Here is a link to the original article

Imagine being able to showcase your entire work life story on a single business card. I am talk about more than just giving the recipient of you card your contact information and website address. I am talk about the all the details; work history, education, contact details, skills, mutual contacts and photograph.

Well, an IPhone app does just that. The app is called CardMunch and it’s a free to download. It was bought by the online network LinkedIn. What this app does is, it takes a photograph of a business card and transforms them into digital contacts. While doing this it also gathers additional information about the person from LinkedIn such as work history, education, contact details…etc

Think about it for a second, imagine you are at a networking meeting and you meet some interesting people that you would like to get to know further. Now with this app you will be able to learn as much detail as possible. At lease whatever is on their LinkedIn profile.

This is an excellent tool for head hunters as well. Once an applicant comes through your door you can now scan their business card and see if the applicant would be a wise investment for your company.

Yet another benefit is putting a face to a business card. How many times has this happened to you? You meet someone at a networking event you get their card and file it away. Then a few months down the line you are shifting through the pile of cards you come across this card but by now you can’t remember this person at all. With the CardMunch you can scan it and obtain all the details you need including their profile photograph.

So far 1.8 million business cards have been scanned worldwide using this app. There is still however accuracy issues with the optical character recognition (OCR) technology to automate the transcription process, so the company still relies on Amazon’s Mechanical Turks marketplace of workers who complete tasks that computer aren’t yet able to do well. How this works is when you scan a card, the card will be uploaded to a marketplace of physical people that will transcribe it. Because of this manual entry there is a delay between the time the card is snapped and the contact information is ready within the app. The company is said to be looking for another solution, unfortunately this is the only option available right now.

CardMunch is a free app for the iPhone. There is a similar app called ScanBizCards which is also available for both the iPhone and the Android devices. The ScanBizCards uses an in-house transcription team rather than the Amazon market which increases privacy.
